The manager asks once. BAR routes the approvals, sends the badge to print, posts it switched off, and the new starter switches it on by scanning the letter.

Approvals stay human decisions — BAR decides who is asked, in what order, and who gets reminded. Activation needs the holder to have a work account; visitors and day-one contractors are handed a badge in person instead. 02 THE WEEK

What a stolen envelope gets you

Today a printed badge is a working key from the moment it leaves the printer. It travels through a courier network, sits in a post room and lies on a desk — and all of that time it opens doors. BAR takes that away: the card is created in your access control system switched off, and it stays switched off until the person it belongs to proves they are holding it.

  • Lost in the post becomes a re-issue, not an incident report
  • Nothing to remember to switch off if it never turns up
  • The card can be switched off again from BAR, without touching the security console
This is the one thing on the deck worth leading with in a plant that mails badges between sites.
The code
Single use, and it belongs to one badge. It is generated when the badge ships and printed on the letter that travels with it, as well as emailed.
The person
Only the badge holder can spend it. Activation needs them signed in, and BAR checks the signed-in person is who the badge was made for. A forwarded code in anybody else's hands is refused.
The clock
It expires, and it burns. The code stops working once used and after its window closes. Security can revoke one, or issue a fresh one if a badge went astray.
The record
Every step is written down as it happens. Who asked, who approved and when, what your access control system answered, the tracking number, and who activated it. An auditor reads a record rather than an inbox.
This is the part of BAR that has no equivalent in a spreadsheet-and-email process, and it is the reason the deck exists. 03 THE DEAD BADGE

Who it is for
Large estates with a badge office. Thousands of employees across many sites, badges requested remotely with single sign-on and printed at whichever shop serves the site. The office's time goes to exceptions — lost cards, special access, audits — not to the request queue.
Access control
Schneider Electric EcoStruxure Security Expert today. BAR creates the cardholder, reserves and assigns the card, and switches it on and off. That is the one platform it drives right now — a second platform is a piece of work we would scope, not a setting we would tick.
Mobile credentials
Visitors today, employees next. HID mobile credentials are issued on the visitor path. For employees BAR tracks a mobile credential and its status, but does not yet issue one — the physical badge is the route that works end to end.
Who built it
An integrator, not a software house. Knight Watch installs and services access control systems. The people who wrote the provisioning call know the panel behind the door — which is why the card can be created switched off rather than created late.
